Books to Read During Your Stay at The Orchard

One of the biggest perks of going way for a little trip is the time you have on your hands for reading books. For many people, carving out a little piece of their day to enjoy books is an impossible feat. Chalk it down to busy schedules, full houses and noise pollution in Delhi. Whatever it may be, this we know to be true: Reading is meditation. It is food for your soul and an education. So we came up with a list of books that you could enjoy while staying at The Orchard, our luxury boutique hotel in Peora.

A spiritual guru revered by followers all over the world had his base not far from The Orchard. Some of the most notable followers were Steve Jobs and Larry Page, both who founded tech giants. Ideal for readers who are spiritual, also works for people who are not spiritual but curious. Maybe your curiosity will be piqued encouraging you to visit the home of Shri Neem Karoli Baba during your stay.

This series has taken the world by a storm. The first book was made into a movie this past year and judging by its success we can expect two more films. Written by a journalist and inspired by his years spent growing up in Singapore – where the characters who truly are crazy and rich, live. A treat for the imagination along with so much information on the cultural landscape of Singapore – these books are great traveling companions. Light, easy to read,  and fun – you will be in a good mood after devouring the pages.

3. A Tiger in The Tunnel by Ruskin Bond.

This piece of fiction is Ruskin Bond at his best. A young man is lying down at the station. The lights of the station go off suddenly. A mysterious sound follows right after. The forest is near and there is plenty to fear. Bond writes from a young boy’s perspective, and encapsulates the way people from rural India think. This is a good book to read while sitting on the balcony of the hotel with a nice cup of piping hot tea. Or maybe you can read this to the kids when it is getting dark outside.

4. In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware.

We can’t share a reading list with our guest without putting a couple of thrillers. There is no better feeling than reading a book that makes you a bit afraid of the woods outside. The early sunsets and the woods all around, make The Orchard a perfect place to be reading this book. Set in the English Countryside, a weekend getaway for someone’s bachelorette ends in murder. This book is un-put-down-able until the very end.

5. My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan.

This book is ideal for the romantic reader. A great love story situated in an idyllic backdrop of Oxford University. An American girl comes to Oxford on a Rhodes scholarship. Armed with a job already, and very clear plans of what she wants to take away from her year away from home – she is taken by surprise by an unexpected romance with her English professor. Between these pages are gems for lovers of literature and lovers of love itself. Heartwarming, really well written and not all sunshine and roses makes this book a compelling read. We do love a happy ending, even if it is not the one we imagined. After you finish this book, you might need a drink or two and The Orchard is the perfect place to sit back, relax and mull over your feelings.
