Things to do during your stay at Villa Morjim

Who doesn’t want a break from the mundane every day routine that we have all come to accept as normal. Think: working in chaotic offices, long distance commutes, staring at laptops all day and just about everything else that we subconsciously keep doing day in and day out. The opportunity to truly escape from all of this is what makes Goa and our Villa Morjim in particular, such a revered destination and place to stay!

Immediately on arrival in Goa, one can feel the stresses and worries melt away into a magnificent backdrop of sun, sand and siestas. Goa has something to offer to everyone – if you like partying, you will be pleased to know there are plenty of options for all-nighters, if you are a foodie (who isn’t these days), there is a massive variety of places to eat at (and not just local authentic Goanese.) If you are a yoga aficionado, you will have an overwhelmingly large amount of places to practice at, including our very own Villa Morjim!

So what can you do in Morjim itself, while you stay at our villa? Here is a list of things to do, places to see and food to eat – all of these suggestions have Villa Morjim’s stamp of approval of course, so let’s get to it:

Open air markets – Goa’s open air markets are lively and buzzing, offering plenty for all. From delicious food to banging beats, good shopping at unbeatable prices to browsing around appreciating the artistry of handicrafts on display– you get to enjoy it all! Some of our top recommendations are Anjuna Flea Market, Mackie’s Saturday Night Bazaar and Ingo’s Saturday Night Bazaar. These markets are a hot bed for hippies, with trance music often playing in the background and crowds wearing bright, colourful clothing – Truly a worthwhile experience, in our opinion.

Foodie paradise – We all know that Goa is a haven for foodies! With a range of incredible restaurants, simple cafes and an increasingly growing number of fancy dining experiences, you wouldn’t have to go too far in search of a good meal. Morjim itself offers plenty of variety, of which our personal favourites are La Plage, Sublime, Fish ‘n’ Feni (for the ultimate seafood lunch) and Jardin D’Ulysse. All of these are within walking distance or a very short drive (under 10 minutes) from Villa Morjim. La Plage (On Ashwem Beach – 10 mins away from Villa Morjim) in particular is world renowned – serving up crowd pleasers such as ceviche, chocolate crepes and caramelized tuna and so much more.  With so many places in the vicinity of our villa, you know you can trust that you will be able to indulge in a long, relaxing afternoon siesta right after your meal.

goa beaches

Beaches on beaches – What is life without sun and sand? Fortunately the folks in Goa have never had to ponder over this question because Goa equals beaches. North Goa’s beaches have a unique appeal to most international tourists as they are generally quiet, scenic and less commercialized. The waters here are calmer so most people can be found swimming here. A mere 350 metres from Villa Morjim you have Morjim Beach – ideal for swimmers as it is relatively quiet and undisturbed. This beach is a popular destination for nature lovers and conservation enthusiasts as it is a home to the highly endangered Olive Ridley turtle. Other beaches you must visit are Chapora & Vagator which are 5kms from Villa Morjim and Mandrem and Arambol Beach which are placed 15 km north of the villa. Accesible via Morjim beach or by road you have – Ashwem beach, which has a Riviera vibe and is dotted with upmarket restaurants. It is only 1.5 km away and last but not least – Anjuna beach which is a great place to meet people and really discover the workings of human psychology. So if you have a thesis to prepare or are just generally a curious person – you won’t be disappointed.

Goa is not a one size fits all destination. Whatever your vibe is, you will be able to find something that aligns with your idea of fun. If you are travelling with friends or your family, there is something for every single person to enjoy. And when you are all done eating, playing (or praying) and loving – it all makes for a fantastic experience when you wind up your day at Villa Morjim where luxury and non-stop pampering awaits you.
